Walk

Colton, my two year old grandson looked at Wyatt, his three month old brother and said “walk.”  The three month old cooed at him.  I smiled to myself and thought Wow! Only Jesus could give those kinds of commands and people walked but that isn’t happening here for so many reasons. Colton’s command to walk was said with love and hope that Wyatt would be able to come and play. I wonder are there times when I expect/exhort people to “walk” when instead I should be asking Jesus to handle that situation.

“Jesus stepped into a boat, crossed over and came to his own town.  Some men brought to him a paralyzed man, lying on a mat. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the man, “Take heart, son; your sins are forgiven.” At this, some of the teachers of the law said to themselves, “This fellow is blaspheming! ”Knowing their thoughts, Jesus said, “Why do you entertain evil thoughts in your hearts? Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the paralyzed man, “Get up, take your mat and go home.” Then the man got up and went home. When the crowd saw this, they were filled with awe; and they praised God, who had given such authority to man. ”  Matthew 9:1-8

Another example:

“Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for one of the Jewish festivals. Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, the paralyzed. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there and learned that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, “Do you want to get well?” “Sir,” the invalid replied, “I have no one to help me into the pool when the water is stirred. While I am trying to get in, someone else goes down ahead of me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Get up! Pick up your mat and walk.” At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.” John 5: 1-9

A reminder on how to walk – “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.  And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8
