What Are You Expecting?
Someone called me recently and I spontaneously asked, “Is everything okay?” I didn’t even realize that I was holding my breath until I let it out in relief after I heard the answer to my question. I was expecting to get a negative answer. After I disconnected the call, I immediately began to question myself. I realized that it wasn’t the first time I had done it.
Why does it seem that it is sometimes easier to expect something negative instead of something positive? It is so easy to live in a world of doom and gloom if you let yourself. You may find yourself playing the “what if,” game and expecting negative outcomes that cause you to live with worry and fear daily.
The truth is, if we’re in fear of what is about to take place it’s because we’re not trusting God like we should. He has promised us in Matthew 6:25-34 that we have no need to worry or fear because, just as He takes care of the lilies of the field and the birds of the air He will also take care of us. Therefore, we should not be living our life always expecting the worst.
3 You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in you,
all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Isaiah 26:3 (NLT)
If you find yourself constantly expecting something undesirable to happen, ask God to increase your faith. Remind yourself that if you trust Him and keep your thoughts on Him you will have His peace.

I want to trust God, especially in those take my breath away moments. Good Word!
Laurie, I love how you worded that. So, do I!
You are right, Bernadine; we always expect the worst when we receive calls. I am the same way. I need to display a better attitude, ask questions before I think the worst. Thank you for the reminder.
Praying that both of us begin to expect the best, Iris..
