What do you consume the most of?

You crave what you consume the most. Doctors say you need to be drinking approximately 8 – 12 cups of water per day. I know the arguments of not being a big fan of water, but if you started forcing yourself to drink this daily amount your body begins to desire it more and more. The same goes for cutting things out of your life. I stopped a few weeks back having sodas. There is no reason except when I stopped I wanted to lose a few pounds. I was averaging 2 to 3 cans of soda a day, sometimes more if I went to a fast food place and got a large. It was just an unhealthy habit I found myself in. Since I have stopped, my body has not missed my daily intake of soda.

The study of God’s word is similar. It is hard to make the time; it is difficult to understand some of the stories in the bible, and truth be told you just may not like reading. If you begin to force yourself to make time, to place it as a priority, your soul will begin to desire it more and more. Just like the consumption of your daily intake of water.

I know in my life I had a time where going to church was enough; I was getting all the spiritual intake I needed. And I was living a “good” life. I was not fighting with anyone, I had no family crises going on, and everything was “good.” It was not until the Lord took away my “good” and shook me up a bit, that I found myself back in God’s word. I was researching all the things I knew in my head to be true, but then why does the ground beneath me seem to quake?

It was not until I dug deeper, and the Lord became more of a lifeline did I realize that there were just some unhealthy habits that were in my life. On the outside they were not hurting anyone, but on the inside they were slowly doing damage.

Is there anything in your life that you may need to purge? Get into the word, even if it is by force at first, because I promise you the more you dig into God’s word the more you desire to know.

Psm 119:16

I will delight in your statutes;
I will not forget your word.

Psm 119:67

Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now I keep your word.

Father, thank you for the desire you have given me to know you more and more. And I know there are something that I have to pray for that desire, but that is ok. You are there to guide and help me to become more and more like you. Thank you for your grace and mercy.

Amen

Disclaimer: The example of not drinking soda is true, but this author does not say she has given it up forever. So if you see her walking down the street with a soda in her hand, I just want to be clear and honest here.

A needed blessing this Saturday morning. Thank you.

    LOL about the disclaimer!

Great post, Laurel and I do have some books in the Bible where I really have to force myself to get through them and then I’m always glad I did. Job is one of them.

    Blessings~

Just when I think I have all my ducks in a row, the Lord starts working on something else!! This was a great devotional Laurel. It’s so true.

LOL at your disclaimer! Great devotional, Laurel. And it is so true. Sometimes you just have to start doing something to incorporate it into your life. Sometimes it’s hard. But when you make that appointment with God’s Word you will reap benefits.

I am a water offender. I hate it and can not even imagine having to replace my beloved Diet Dr. Pepper with it.

“…just some unhealthy habits in my life. On the outside they were not hurting anyone, but on the inside they were slowly doing damage.”

I loved that you said this..often the things that are causing damage are things that are personal offenses for us. God alone knows what needs to go in our lives to bring us closer to Him. I just hope He doesn’t decide for me it is my Diet Dr. P.

    :))

    Love ya!!

This is great, Larurel, and very true. Cleaning up and cleaning out regardless of what it is, and replacing it with what is better is dfefinitely a good thing–and even better when it is for His Glory. 🙂

    Laurel,

    Love this disclaimer. Too cute.

Reading the Bible and praying started for me as a duty but God always turns duty into desire. I can’t live without it daily now in my life. God bless you.

    What a wondeful post.
Just as I do not like to drink water, often I do not drink the whole day. I tell others that I am a camel. If one day I am thirsty,I will drink lot of water, then keep so many days no water. And still the others bad habits.
I know maybe now I am healthy because I am still young, but maybe one day the damage shows up, then it is too late, no chance to change.
Just as the bible says that the lord will come again as a thief, no one knows the time. So we really should be alarm to follow the Lord’s commands.
So I will try to be a big fan of water, not only the pure water, but also the life spring.
