Where is our Mission Field?
“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.” ~ Philippians 2:3-7
Lately, I have been thinking about our service, our mission. Where is our mission field? Is it abroad? Is it at home? In our own backyard? I believe it is everywhere.
I have served many years at our church in various ministries; several years I worked at a church office as an accountant. One of my favorite things was leading women Bible studies. However, over the last three years I have stepped back. It was not that I didn’t enjoy the time serving “publicly”; I did.
With my husband being sick for the past two years, I have put my focus on ‘home mission’ and ‘work mission’. As Paul writes in Philippians 2 “…in humility count others more significant than yourselves…”
With my husband being so sick the last couple of years, I am more needed at home. Although it is very exhausting; working full time, making runs to the doctors offices, filling out paperwork, I humbly serve at the home front. That is my current mission field.
“The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.” ~ Psalm 28:7
Lord of Heaven and Earth. Thank you for giving me strength and peace. You have given us all a different mission field. Wherever You send us, help us to serve humbly. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

May God strengthen you in this service, Iris. I pray God comes alongside to encourage you as you walk this path.
Thank you, Luwana.
One of my favorite sayings that has helped throughout different seasons in my ministry life is “bloom where you are planted”. I have always loved going on mission trips but honestly the mission work right where I am is just as important. Good message today.
I totally agree, Laurie – we do bloom where we are planted. 🙂
