Where there is a will, there is a way
One thing that my Mom always taught me is no matter what you do, do it well. But to be honest with you, sometimes doing it “well” is not what I feel like doing. Sometimes I feel tired. Sometimes I feel unworthy. Sometimes I just want to give up. Sometimes I just don’t see a possible way to keep on keeping on.
But no matter how I “feel”, my Mom continues to remind me that where there is a will, there is a way…
“It has been a good day – Thank you Lord! Even baked peanut butter cookies. I sat on my walker very securely doing so I would not fall! Where there is a will there is a way!” -Granny J
That was one of my Mom’s last facebook statuses before God took her home. Mom didn’t have alot to give. She lived on a fixed income and couldn’t put alot in the offering plate. She had some health issues that kept her from being able to do much of anything. But yet she wanted to do something for God. She wanted to do something for others. Many who knew her, knew her as the “Cookie Angel”, because she loved to bake. And she took something that she loved to do and was able to do and made it her ministry.
One may ask, “How can baking cookies become a ministry?” I don’t know, but I do know that Mom took what little she had to give and blessed others with it. Much like the widow, Mom knew what it was to put her all into it and do well with what she was given.
“And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, ‘Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she, out of her poverty has put in all the livelihood that she had.” (Luke 21:1-4)
Even when life knocked Mom off of her feet, she mustered up enough strength to push her walker to the counter and mix up her cookie dough. I’m sure others would have given up, but not Mom, she determined where there was a will, there would be a way.
What a lesson we can learn here, not just from my Mom, but from the widow who gave all that she had. These two ladies knew what it was to do well, no matter what their circumstances. Surely, where there is still will in our heart – God will make a way!
Next time you feel weary, unworthy or you feel like giving up, think about the Cookie Angel and the widow who gave their all. Hang in there and do your best, your very best, and see what kind of blessing will come from it.

That is so beautiful Laurie, the way you have shared your Mom’s legacy. Your Mom quickly became one of my favourite online friends. We talked when she was losing her brother and her neighbour friend as well. I especially cherish the one phone conversation we had when I telephoned her. She surely was the “Cookie Angel”.
Thank you June. She cherished her friendship with you.
A powerful message I needed to read this morning. Thank you for your encouragement, Laurie.
Thank Iris for your encouragement. May we all do our very best… even when we don’t feel like it!
