Words

Words. I love them. Individually they are interesting enough but combined in just the right way they come to life. For those of us who love to read there is nothing more enjoyable than a well written book. Words strung together in such a way that we are held captive – taken to another time and place. Words written from a heart that we somehow know, that bring us to a place of deeper understanding.

For those of us who love to write, words are the means by which we seek to communicate something of what we are, something of what we hold dear. The discovery of that perfect combination of words is exhilarating.

In the Gospel of John, Jesus is described as the Word:
“In the beginning was the Word, and Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God…
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:1,2,14

The Greek word for “word” is logos. The footnote in my Bible says: “Revelation is the keynote idea in the logos concept. Here it is applied to Jesus, who is all that God is and the expression of Him.”

The Bible is comprised of many words written through divine inspiration that tell us who God is. When Jesus came, He had no need to write down what He wanted us to know about the Father and His Kingdom. He lived it. He, God’s perfect Son, was a living, breathing epistle of Who God is. The life He lived on this earth was a perfect reflection of the Father.

Are we longing to know who God is? We have but to look at His Son.  His perfect life, marked by love, grace and holiness, has written the story.

Blessings,

Linda

Beautifully said. There is so much power in words, they can breathe life or kill. I am so thankful for the power of Gods Word … that It offers life to all who read It! 🙂

So true about words. Yet it’s a paradox that even those of us who love reading and know the power of words often go to the Bible last when struggling. We can pick up the phone or send out an email, but sit down and emerse ourselves in God’s word? Somehow that’s tough at times.

You do an excellent job of reminding us of where we need to be and where we must be centered. Thank you, Linda.

So true, Linda. I do enjoy a well-written book, but I love the Bible more than any other book! My favorite places in the Bible are the Psalms, and the Gospels 🙂

I’m a lover of words too. Peter and I are reading through John together in the mornings. We read through the first couple of chapters during the holidays. We talked about the difference between Word/rhema and Word/logos. I’m so thankful the Word became flesh and dwelt among us!
