New Years Resolution…Seek God first!
It is difficult to know which resolution I want to stick to this year. Truth is, for the past several years, I have resolved to improve something in my life. Lose weight, eat better, save money, exercise, read my bible more, etc. But invariably, I have always failed to stay true to my commitments like I had originally vowed to.
I don’t know why, but the year always ends differently than how it started. The new outlook of looking better and feeling better always seems to fade away as the months fly by. Makes me wonder why we even make New Year’s Resolutions, if we aren’t going to stick to them.
But I really want to make this year different. I don’t want to make a commitment that I cannot stick to for the ENTIRE year. So I have wondered what one thing I could commit to that would make a huge difference in my life.
It came to me as I read my Bible earlier today…
“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all of these things will be added unto you.” MATTHEW 6:33
What an amazing commitment to make this year…to seek God first! I am reminded of how our grown sons often times come to their father for some wisdom and advice when they have a crisis in their life. They don’t always heed the fatherly advice my husband gives, but they seek what he has to say before anyone else.
Oh to seek our Heavenly Fathers wisdom when a crisis or decision comes our way. Oh, don’t take me wrong, seeking godly wisdom is not wrong but we should always seek God’s counsel through prayer and His Word. God is the One with the ultimate guidance and advice. We can stand upon His Word! His word is His voice and His voice will never mislead us.
So, if you are looking for a resolution that will take you from the start of the new year all the way to the end…Seek Him first. And everything else will fall into place.

I have recently returned to seeking God and a relationship with Him through an accidental connection with another blog – you never know when or where the path back to God will be found! Thank you.
What a great resolution, Laurie. I am with you; I have broken them every year, so I don’t make them anymore.
But seeking God and His kingdom first is something I can possibly stick with throughout the entire year.

Seeking God first is the way to live our lives in Him. I am one who does make New Year’s resolutions though. When I pray about them and continually come back to them, I tend to keep them. But I always seek Him and His will first.
