Be the Blessing

Remember the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me?” Nothing could be farther from the truth. Words can wound us deeply. But they can also heal.

“Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones.” ~ Proverbs 16:24

We are an Instant Message, Trending Now, type of society that is easily offended and angered. Word grenades hurled; tempers flare, and anxiety levels rise. The words we say or write can never be recovered. Before we write a status on Facebook or send an email while upset,  we need to feel compelled to THINK and first ask ourselves:

T – Is it TRUE?

H – Is it HELPFUL?

I – Is it INSPIRING?

N – Is it NECESSARY?

K – Is it KIND?

What comes out of our mouths is a reflection of our heart. Are we speaking praise to God and encouragement to others, or judgment and criticism? Even truth to correct a Be a Blessingbrother or sister in Christ can be said in love. Say nothing to insult or malign, rather speak the truth in love. Speak healing words of grace to affirm others and to support their dreams. Speak life into the lives of those around you. Give the gift of a blessing and speak a prayer over them.

Today, may His grace flow from you upon others. May your words bless and bring encouragement.

“Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, that it may give grace to those who hear.” ~ Ephesians 4:28

I invite you to come by my blog today and join our Thankful Thursday community. We’re a relatively new group that is linking blogs and hearts together through gratitude. The button below will take you directly to this week’s link-up of blogs that are sure to be a blessing.

Great message, Marsha. It is true that sometimes we say things in the heat of the moment that we might regret later. I have learned to step if I respond to an email when angry, or be quiet when in a conversation. Let us all be more thoughtful with our words.
