What would you give?
I attended a ladies’ Bible study on Monday at the church we visited Sunday in our new town. They are studying the book of Luke. We read the story of the woman who washed Jesus’ feet. You can read the account in Luke 7:38—50.
There are so many lessons we can learn today from this woman’s example. We read she was a “sinful woman” (vs. 37) and when she found out Jesus was in town, she went to that house with her jar of perfume. She is pictured crying and washing Jesus’ feet with her tears and drying them with her hair (vs. 38).
I can just imagine this woman in my mind and how she must have looked to the others as she sat at the feet of Jesus. How beautiful this heart must have been to Jesus because He told her that her sins were forgiven (vs. 48).
One of the ladies at the class asked a question. She asked if you were in the presence of Jesus as this woman was, what would you say or do? I have been pondering this question and wanted to share it with you.
Obviously, Jesus does not want us to come before Him with material possessions. He doesn’t want to see what our money could buy for Him. He wants our hearts. What would that look like for you to give Him your heart? Would you weep sorrowfully at His feet for the sins He has forgiven? Would you shout praises to His name for all He has done? Would you say a simple thank you for the blessings you have? Our complete, broken hearts are beautiful gifts to Him. How can you give the gift of your heart completely to Him?
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 22:37, 38

wow. what a great post and a thought provoking question. I recently did a devo about what would we do if late one night there was a knock at the door and there stood Jesus. Would our house be in order…or would we have to clean up alittle bit. Your devo kind of goes along with that, seems like God is trying to tell me something! lol 🙂
Wow, what a thought provoking question. I will have to think this over too. How are you all doing? Have a Merry Christmas and Blessed New Year.
