What’s your morning song?

It was around 5:30 in the morning, and I was in a tent. I heard my husband moving around unzipping the tent. It was still dark from what I could tell. As I had laid there through the night, I enjoyed hearing the various sounds of the night as the breeze moved through the leaves of the tree above me, noises that I don’t normally hear during the day inside my house.

As I was awake at 5:30 I realized I was hearing a new noise, a different noise that I had not heard during the times I’d been awake in the night. I listened for a moment and realized what noise this was. It was the birds in the trees. They were singing their morning song. They had been quiet through the night, and now, as they knew the sun was near rising, their songs began.

Being in a tent I could clearly hear them. I couldn’t block out the noise this morning. So I just listened. And I thought. I thought how these birds were singing their morning song. It got me thinking about my own mornings, and I’ve been thinking about these singing birds since then. What does my morning song sound like? How do I greet each morning? Do I have a song of praise on my lips and a prayer in my heart? Or is my morning song one of grumpiness and irritability?

This week I read this verse.

In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:3

How does this verse compare to the way you start your mornings? How do you treat the people you encounter first thing in the morning? Do you have patience when your children are slow in getting ready? Do you gripe to your husband for leaving the milk on the counter? Are you tempted to honk at the cars in your way as you commute to your workplace? Do you take time to begin your day in prayer and thanksgiving to God?

How much better our days might be if we would start first thing with prayer and praise! May our morning songs be as pretty as the songs of the birds.

Have a day of blessings!

    I love this post Bethany!

I often wake up with a song in my head. It reminds me to be careful about what I listen to and fill my head with as it stays with me. But often the Lord will awaken me with a song of praise. I love those mornings.

It sounds like your camping trip was a blessing. Listening to the birds sing in the morning and then sharing it with us. A double blessing.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

I am a morning person 🙂 …Usually, before my feet hit the floor in the morning, I thank the Lord for another day and the opportunity to share His love with the people I encounter throughout the day.
