Locking the Doors and Windows

When my two year old grandson spends the weekends with us, all the doors and windows have to be locked shut to prevent his escape. Even this doesn’t always ensure he remains safely in the house. Because he is too young to comprehend the dangers that lurk outside, and that we are locking him in for his own safety, he makes it his constant quest to break out!

His grandpa and I see the potential harm in his running free…like the tractor (that doesn’t need a key), the horse he loves to run up behind, and the water fountain he likes splashing with his little fingers…right before he tries to climb in! There are many things a little boy can get hurt by on a farm…but still he does his best to escape our loving boundaries and run free outside the safety of them.

Is that how we are with God? He surrounds us on all sides with His protection and the safety of His rules. Do we fight to run free outside their boundaries and ignore the danger He’s protecting us from? Sometimes I can see a resemblance between that two year old and myself in the way we desire to be where we‘re told we can’t go. And like that little boy, I can’t comprehend all the hidden dangers lurking outside the will of my heavenly Father’s boundaries. He locks doors to keep us safe – not prisoners!

“Father God, please help me be content inside your will. Help me trust you know what’s best for me and have provided your protection by shutting some doors and windows in my life. Help me accept them and not try to break them open and run freely to what will harm me. Thank you for being a loving Father. Amen.”

…but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm. Proverbs 1:33

Blessings,

Charlotte

I think that old nature in us likes to do things our way just like your little grandson. Even after being saved, I sometimes struggle with rebellion at times. But as I grow in my relationship with the Lord, I find that His ways are perfect and good for me. If only I would remember that more often though.

A wonderful reminder in the story of your grandson.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

Oh so true, Charlotte; I like to run ‘wild’ sometimes, but I know it is better to stay in the boundaries the Heavenly Father has given me.

None of us like boundaries Charlotte, but truth be told they are for our benefit. Not only pysically but spiritually. Good Word! 🙂
