The Heat is On

“Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.”
(Philippians 2:3-4 ESV)

Since living in Arizona, summer is my least favorite season. I love the outdoors, however during the summer months there is not much we can do outside. The only activity we do, is running (walk faster) from air conditioning to air conditioning.

Not only do the temperatures rise (up to 120), but also the tempers of the people living here. People cutting in line at the grocery store, or even worse, cut you off in traffic. We already drive pretty fast here (we have very wide roads), but in the summer it seems people drive even faster. I guess everyone wants to get to their destination as fast as they can.

I too find myself a little on the edge with these temperatures. Last weekend we hit 120 in areas of the city. It was insane. It is very hard to be kind when the living condition are less than ideal.

However, Paul reminds us in Philippians to “…let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” That is a tall order when under stress, but it is the right thing to do.

I read a wonderful quote by Toby Mac the other day: “Be kind to unkind people, sometimes they need it the most.”

My dear friends, when you encounter unkind people, they might be in a stressful situation. Don’t repay unkindness with unkindness. Smile and move on. We don’t have to be famous to have an impact on people around us. Be kind and let Christ shine through you; especially when the heat is on.

Lord of mercy and grace. Help me to be kind to unkind people. Let me step out of Your way and let Your love, kindness, and mercy shine through me when the heat is on. In the precious name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Wonderful message. Seems people are so Intuned to their world and problems they miss out on seeing what Others may be facing. Kindness goes a long way.

Yes, it does Laurie. Sometimes it is hard to be kind, but I always remember that I am His ambassador.
