Heaven’s Technology

We live in an amazing time. Looking from the perspective of sixty-one years, I could never have imagined some of the things we now take for granted. Imagine: a telephone you can carry around with you – so small you can slip it into your pocket; the ability to record television programming (even when you aren’t home to turn things on); renting movies to watch in the comfort of your own living room; computers and all they have brought into our lives – only a few of the innovative things we didn’t have when I was growing up.

One would think that all of this new technology would make it easy to keep in touch. However, there have been times when I’ve wanted to get in touch with someone and been unable to do so. The first thing I try is the home phone – no one there so I leave a message. Next I call the cell phone – no answer so it’s voice mail. As a last resort I send an email – and wait and wait…..

How different heaven’s “technology” is. When I need to get in touch with my heavenly Father, there is never any fear that He won’t be there. Hear David’s words as he cries out to the Lord:

“I am praying to You because I know You will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.” Psalm 17:6 (NLT).

The picture of the great God who created heaven and earth simply by His spoken word, bending down to listen to me makes my heart overflow with emotion. No matter how many other voices are raised to Him in prayer at any given moment, the minute I speak a word He hears – and He bends down to listen just as though I was His only child. In fact, I really don’t even have to say a word:

“Even before there is a word on my tongue, behold, O Lord, Thou dost know it all.”
Psalm 139:4 (NAS).

We have the miraculous privilege of talking to the true and living God. There is never a moment that He will be too busy to listen. He has made everything available to us through Jesus, all we need do is ask. There have been times in my life when I didn’t value this precious gift. It was more a duty than the blessing God intended it to be. I have come to understand how powerful prayer is – how it deepens my relationship to Him. There are times I have only to speak His name, and I am overwhelmed by a sense of His presence and love. Even in the times when it seems like my prayers are bouncing back at me, I know He hears. The answer will come in His time.

“I love the Lord because He hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because He bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!” Psalm 116: 1,2 (NLT)

Linda – What a comfort it is to know that is always reachable for us. He’s the only one we can count on 24/7. Thanks for the great post.

    Linda:
I’ve just had an incredible morning with the Lord…typing and talking to him through my tears…knowing that he has bent low to hear my heart.

I told him that for all of the “gains” I might know in this life…the greatest is knowing him as I have known him this morning. Intimacy as intimacy was meant to be tasted.

Available to all. Precious and portioned out to me. How I love Him!

    peace~elaine

Linda, what a timely word and how true it is. How sad I am when I think about the times when I took this gift for granted and saw it as a chore, also.

I wish everyone could see and feel how precious it is that the maker of the universe actually desires to spend time with us. We would listen if someone famous called and wanted to have lunch with us, wouldn’t we?!

    Linda,

Awesome… “I am praying to You because I know You will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray.” Psalm 17:6 (NLT)…. I am blown away because we can talk to the creator of the Universe and He LISTENS…. Blown away, I tell you… 🙂

Isn’t it sweet to know that there will never be voice-mail when we dial the number of our Heavenly Father? It doesn’t matter if is in the middle of the day or the middle of the night when we ‘call’ Him in prayer. That is such a comfort to me 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing about God’s availability 24/7.

    Be blessed today and always.
