Adding the “Extra” to Ordinary

Someone once said it’s that little “extra” added to ordinary that makes someone extraordinary. It’s a very simple explanation of something very profound. Have you noticed that God uses ordinary people and sometimes those we view as less than ordinary, to accomplish His plans and bring extraordinary glory to Himself? I’ve read stories about a few of these people, the Bible is full of them. The one thing they all had in common was their dependence on God’s power to accomplish the task at hand. It wasn’t anything they could do on their own, the “extra” added to their ordinary lives was God.

How would your life be described, are you ordinary? Do you believe God can add His “extra” and bring about extraordinary results in what He calls you to do? Is something holding you back from believing and trusting Him…like fear? Gideon was afraid, and yet God chose him to be His front man leading His army in battle, “The sword of the Lord and Gideon.” Are you embarrassed to step out in faith and do something God has told you to do? Is it something that looks more foolish than building an ark in a dry and rainless place because God told you a flood will come, like Noah did? Do you seem too small and insignificant to speak out against the powerful foe God is sending you against…like Moses did?

These men’s stories, and many more, are examples of God’s desire to use ordinary people. Not only did He use them to accomplish His will, He used ordinary things placed in their hands and made them His own. Gideon had a lamp and a horn, Noah had a hammer, Moses a rod; all seemed very ordinary. But when an obedient hand picks up a tool from God, it is transformed into a mighty instrument by which God’s very power is displayed.

What has He placed in your hand? Trust Him to use it for His glory…step out in faith and watch Him put the “extra” in your ordinary life.

I love how God uses the “little guys” and the people we’d least expect! When He does, it is always God strength and power that shines through! Blessings, Joan

Charlotte, what a powerful post and encouragement to all of us. May I step out in faith to do the things God has already planned for me in advance. May He make me extraordinary.
