Blast from the Past
Our family is a legacy at Louisiana Tech University. Wayne’s mom graduated in the early 1950’s, Wayne’s brother in the late 70’s, Wayne in 1981, and then I graduated in 1983. Our family history fostered a desire in our son to also attend La Tech. Mark is now a Sophomore studying Construction Engineering Technology.
When Mark was a high school senior the three of us made the ten hour trip to Ruston to visit the campus. We got the official tour and talked to admissions and the engineering department. Mark loved everything!
The whole day was quite nostalgic for Wayne and me. We walked the campus remembering people and events from our time at Tech. I even got to go inside the dorm I lived in way back then. Graham Dormitory is now the men’s engineering dorm. In fact, Mark lived in the same building his first year! And I think this is the only spot on campus that hasn’t changed or had a face lift in the last twenty-seven years.
The best part about our time there was getting to share our past with Mark. We told him about old friends, classes, and things that happened. Wayne even shared a few “escapades!” Mark now knows his parents a little better and understands a bit more about what shaped our lives because we talked about the things in our past.
Our past should not be forgotten. We should remember it and talk about it with our children and grandchildren – particularly how God has worked in our lives. God knows that sharing with our children what He has done in the past is an effective way to teach them about Him. We see this all through Scripture. Again and again God’s people recount the things He has done in the past. God wants us to pass along His story and His commandments. The older generation passing along the story of God to the younger generation.
These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. Deut 6:6-9
What stories can you tell? What great things of God should you share with your children and grandchildren? I’d like to hear them too!
- Be careful of who you trip

Nice post.
I always like to share with others how God has brought me into the desert to call me back to Him. Although the years have not been easy, but I know that they have been necessary so that I can truly be close to Him and understand His way of salvation.
Iris, a lot of Christians need to hear your story. Keep sharing!
