Be careful of who you trip

How ludicrous would it be if a child walked by us and we stuck out our foot and tried to trip them?

Isn’t that exactly what we do spiritually when we continue to do things that we know causes someone to stumble? Going places we shouldn’t, associating with people we know we shouldn’t, listening to things that we know we shouldn’t…all of it is like sticking our foot out and tripping our brothers and sisters in the Lord.

“but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.” (Matthew 18:6)

In this passage, Jesus is telling us to be sensitive to the vulnerability of others, especially those who are weak, forgotten, neglected and babes in Christ. What I love about Christ is that He did not just preach this message, He lived it.

We too must not just “talk the talk” but it is imperative that we “walk the walk” as well. Extreme measures are required of us to keep from causing not just the “little ones” but anyone from stumbling and falling.

Jesus warning is very heartfelt and His point extreme. It would be better to be drowned in the sea rather than face Jesus because we have caused another to stumble. Jesus heartbeat is for ALL to be saved, and losing one because of something we have said or done is heart wrenching to Jesus.

May we all consider the things we involve ourselves with. May we all consider if our actions and words glorify God or glorify man. May we consider if our words match our actions. “May we consider”…

…by considering others and considering God, we are sure to not find ourselves drowned in the sea.

PRAYER: Dear Lord, please use me to further Your kingdom, help me to be careful of my influence. May my yes be yes and my no be no. Help me to not lead others astray by my actions or by my teaching. Lord, give me an undivided heart, a clear witness that reflects Your character and may I have a deeper concern for others and may my actions not cause one, not one, to stumble in their walk with You. AMEN

This is an excellent reminder! Just watching a TV show or listening to a song on the radio can cause a person to slip – can cause ourselves to slip! Thanks for a great post 🙂 Have a wonderful day!
