Are you ‘Bulletproof’?

Cross ShadowRead: Ephesians 6:10-20

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil… In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one.” ~ Ephesians 6:11, 16 (ESV)

The other night my husband and I watched the documentary “Bulletproof Salesman.” The show somehow got my attention. The German Fidelis Cloer makes his business by armoring cars for war-zones across the globe.

Fidelis is very successful with his business. His armored cars are delivered to mostly embassy employees in Afghanistan and Iraq. The cars come with a hefty price tag, but then again, can you really put a price on human life? Throughout the years of experience in war-zones, the cars have been improved to the point that they can save a life even during a bomb attack.

After watching the show, my heart was sad thinking about how much we spend to protect the body from attacks. How about the soul? Paul in his letter to the believers in Ephesus describes how to protect the soul from attacks of the devil. I am glad these instructions are preserved for us today.

Paul writes: “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.” ~ Ephesians 6:10 (ESV – emphasis mine). You see the strength to withstand spiritual attacks does not come from us or the outside, it comes from our Lord.

I love the word pictures of Paul describing the whole armor of God; from head to toe we are to cloth ourselves with God’s protection. I especially love the part on how we should put up our ‘shield of faith to extinguish the flaming darts’ (Eph 6:16).

So let us put on our armor of God through faith that will strengthen and protect us from flaming darts and outside influences. The best part is the armor is free when we put our trust in Christ Jesus.

Lord of Heaven and Earth, Thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die for our sins and making us Your children. We know that You are for us. Help us to not be afraid of the forces that can kill the body. We know that if we put on Your armor You bulletproof our souls. In the precious name of Jesus ~ Amen.
