Change
Change is one of those words that can produce a variety of emotions right in the heart of us.
We Skype with our daughter and son-in-law every Sunday. They live far away – across a vast ocean. It’s wonderful to be able to see them, but the real star of the show is our new little grandson. We first met him as a newborn, cradled in his Mama’s arms, tiny and curly-haired. As one week folds into another we see the change in him. He has gone from a sleepily little bundle to a wide-eyed little cherub – looking right back at us through the screen. Sweet, miraculous change.
There are those changes that come with the tick of the clock – the phone call late at night, the knock at the door, the sudden, violent storm. In a moment the world shifts and life is no longer the same.
A change of our own choosing – a new home, a new job, a marriage, a birth – the kind of change we like. It adds a something special to our lives – as long as it goes according to plan.
Most of us would prefer our lives to go as planned. We don’t mind an adventure or two along the way, but nothing beyond our control, please. We don’t have to live very long before we understand that change will come whether we plan for it or not. It comes to our own little corner of the world, and it comes to our wider world.
These days so many of us are feeling unsettled by changes we sense may be coming. Wouldn’t it be wonderful, we think, if we could find something solid to stand on – something we could count on to be constant and sure.
It turns out that something is a Someone. We have a heavenly Father who has told us He will never change. He will always love us. He will always be with us. His promises will never fail. He will always be for us. Our future is secure in His hands.
We don’t come equipped with a road map for our lives, with every turn in the road clearly marked. But we can be secure in the certain knowledge He will travel with us and take us safely home.
“For I, the Lord do not change;” Malachi 3:6a
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8
“God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change His mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through?” Numbers 23:19

- Do You Want The Best?
This is a very timely word in our rapidly changing world- thank you Linda.
Aren’t we glad that God doesn’t show us the entire plan of our life when we are younger. The person I was then is not the person I am now. Grateful that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Enjoy watching that grandbaby grow. Such fun.
Great message about change, certainly not something easy to adapt to but yet necessary for our spiritual and physical growth.
Thank you for sharing from your heart. You are right; we don’t like change. But I know that I am standing on the Solid Rock.
I’ve always liked a certain bit of order and predictability in my life. However, I’m grateful that in the midst of changes I can depend on a God who will never change. Thanks for sharing.
