Change of plans

How many times in life do we think we have everything figured out?  Do you think that way too?  I know I have felt I knew best many times throughout my life and that I just KNEW what the outcome of certain events would be.  I can think of several examples when I tried to plan things out down to the last detail, only to have my plans not work out at all.  The end result turned out to be quite different than I had imagined.

Our plans often do not turn out as we expect.  Whether it is the illness or death of a loved one or something less life-changing, many times we have to accept that things don’t always turn out as we hope, dream, or plan.  When everything crashes down or things turn out “wrong” from what we had anticipated, we are left feeling confused and hurt and probably with many questions.

I think of the story in Exodus of baby Moses.  You can read the story in Exodus 2.  As a mother I cannot imagine how Moses’ mother must have felt to prepare the basket for him and place her little baby in that basket into the river.  I imagine she must have had all sorts of doubts and questions.  All that was happening around her probably didn’t make sense in her mind either.  She was trying to protect her baby as Pharoah had given an order for all Hebrew baby boys to be killed (Exodus 1:22).  When she put him in the basket, she would not have known that she herself would be the one to get to nurse him and care for him when he was taken out of the water by Pharoah’s daughter. Who could have imagined that!

As we have the whole story in front of us, we can see that all of this happened for a reason.  The people were facing much oppression.  God had a plan bigger than Moses’ mother could have seen….He was going to eventually use her baby boy to help deliver the people.

When we think we know best, we need to realize that truly God has the best plan for each of us just as He did for Moses. Things may not make sense when they happen different from our wishes, but we have to trust the One who sees the bigger picture.

As we read in Romans 8:28–

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”

Have a day of blessings!

Thanks for this encouraging word, Bethany. I’ve recently been in the place of confusion about the plans He has for me. To me, it was a change of plans, but in reality, it’s not His plans for me that changed, but my plans for me that changed.

Thank you for encouraging me today, Bethany! I hate when I doubt the plan He has set before me. I am doing that right now with our new home. Adversity arises and I doubt. I am so glad I can know that He knows what He is doing!
