Cleanse Me, O God!

I LOVE COFFEE! Well, that may be an understatement. But I am sure many of you agree with me. I usually have some each day. Unfortunately, I am now having to drink decafeinated so I can sleep. One day several years ago I was rinsing out my coffee pot as I usually did each day to make another pot. Mind you, I said rinse it out not give it a good washing. We all know it takes better when you just rinse it out. NOT! When I am having company I give it a good cleaning and get all the residue out of it. Anyhow, on this particular day, the Lord spoke to me and said, ‘That is how you do with me.” I stopped to think about what He was saying and He continued. He said, “You come into my presence each day just long enough to get a good rinsing out. Then you leave with residue still on your life from days gone by. I would like for you to stay long enough for me to cleanse you and purify you from all the residue. It would make your life so much better. It would make you happier and more of a blessing to others.” He was right as always!

Psalms 51:2 says, “Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.” Then verse 10 goes on to say,”Create in my a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Actually, the whole chapter is good)

How often do we carry residue in our lives from past hurts, frustrations, pains, disappointments, failures, and other things. Things that our Heavenly Father would love to cleanse out of our lives if only we would stop and take the time to let Him. We are always so busy and that carries over into our devotional life. But He is patiently waiting for us to stop and bring Him all of our problems. Isn’t it a wonderful feeling in the natural to have a fresh bath and be all clean? How much better would we feel in the spiritual if we allow the Holy Spirit to cleanse us each day. Lord, help me to learn from my coffee pot! Help me to be willing to be cleansed by you so that what I serve out each day to others will be fresh from you. They don’t want or need that old stale stuff in my life, but they need a fresh touch of your spirit as you work through me your vessel. Thank you, Lord, that you love us enough to talk to us where we live and get all up in our stuff!
