Cling!

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you.

Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord,

because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

I Cor. 15:58 (NIV)

Life.  So much of it, is just routine, ordinary activities.  Predictable things.  Schedules.  Deadlines.  Appointments.  Most of which, have a predictable cause and effect.  But sometimes, admittedly more often than we prefer, things just do not make sense.  Life does not make sense.  No matter how we backtrack, regroup, re-figure…some things just do not work out.  In those moments we endure inconvenience,  momentary disappointments, and re-directs.

At times, these unexpected life events can be so traumatic or heart-wrenching, that our very core is shaken.  The ground beneath us seems to melt away.  The very foundation of our system is shaken.  Sometimes irretrievably.

What do you do when life does not make sense?  How do you handle it when you feel you are caught on a collision course with destruction, with no exit ramps?

Honestly, there are no pat answers.  We each deal with difficulty differently.  So much of our response is wound up in our past experience- the good, the bad, and the ugly. But a lot of our response is a choice.  A choice to keep going.   A determination to not be defeated.  An act of our will.

Christians struggle with the same questions as non-believers at times.  But we must be like trees whose roots run deep, always seeking out the refreshing water of the Holy Spirit.  We must burrow in deeper into His arms.  Hide our faces in the bosom of His compassion.  We must believe, nay, we must know that He is near.  He walks beside us.  He loves us.  He has not forgotten us. These are things we sometimes repeat by faith, sometimes without the corroborating emotions.

Sometimes God does not make sense.  Sometimes His ways are beyond figuring out.   In those seasons, in those moments- cling.  Cling,  Child of God!

If you are walking in a season of confusion, fear or uncertainty, let go of reason.  Forget understanding, and cling for dear life to the One who has the answers and will see you through.  Be unmovable!

Father, cause a fierce determination to rise up in the hearts of the Saints.  Especially in the hearts of the hurting.  Give grace to those to0 weak to hang on in their own strength.  Encourage the confounded.  In Jesus’ Name.  Amen.

You are right; sometimes we don’t understand His ways. However, we know that we can trust that He is with us through it all.
