Don’t Become Weary in Doing Good

“Honey, check this out!” At those words I looked up from my phone.  I stared amazed at the ducks and swans swimming across the pond as if they were late for an appointment.

My husband and I had gone for a walk in the park and he had taken some bread to feed the ducks. When we first arrived all of the ducks were on the opposite side of the pond. My husband didn’t let that disappoint him.  He started feeding a muskrat that swam by.  I quickly grew bored watching the lone muskrat and got distracted by something else.  However when he called and I looked I couldn’t believe the ducks and swans swimming across the pond as if drawn by a magnet to the bread he was tossing into the water.

The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say, “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come; and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life.

Revelation 22:17 NIV

The scene of the ducks swimming enthusiastically across the pond was compelling. The bread was tossed in the water for whoever desired it.  Those ducks swam a good distance in hopes that they would get a few pieces of the freely given bread.  I noticed however that not all came.

Maybe they had already eaten.

Maybe they were tired and the distance seemed too far.

Maybe it seemed too good to be true.

Whatever the reason, they didn’t come.

It’s like the gift of salvation.  It is offered freely to everyone but not everyone desires or accepts the gift.  The job of the Christian is to offer and to rejoice with those that accepts it.  Those who don’t accept, maybe they will another day. However, until then we’ll keep feeding, praying and hoping that all will accept the freely given gift of salvation.

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9 NIV

What a great analogy on the Scripture passage. You are right, not all are ready to receive His gift of salvation. But we should not grow weary to keep sharing His love and grace.
