Easy Street can Lead to a Dead-end Street

One of the hardest things to do when you are in limbo is wait it out. I have always heard, if in doubt, just wait. Waiting is easy, said no one, ever! Waiting is not easy, but is it even meant to be easy?

I have found that the most amazing things that have come to me did not come easy. In fact, most of my trials in life have been difficult. But looking back, I would not do a thing over or wish that I had an easy street for the journey. Changing the road that we travel may end up changing the destination. Easy street can lead to a dead end street.

(THE MESSAGE) “There are many out there taking other paths, choosing other goals, and trying to get you to go along with them. I’ve warned you of them many times; sadly, I’m having to do it again. All they want is easy street. They hate Christ’s Cross. But easy street is a dead-end street. Those who live there make their bellies their gods; belches are their praise; all they can think of is their appetites. But there’s far more to life for us.” (Phil. 3:17-21)

I like how The Message says that choosing the easy way is making our bellies our gods. In other words, we want to feast only on what tastes good to us. If I were to only eat things that tasted good to me, I would swell up like a balloon. While eating sweet things aren’t necessarily a bad thing; too much of it could be harmful. This is the reason that we all strive to eat a well rounded diet.

Likewise, experiencing too much of a good thing isn’t necessarily bad for us but it isn’t good either. If everything in life came easy and we didn’t have to trust God for things, our dependence upon Him would soon falter and fade away. We need to be on a well rounded spiritual diet, that includes trials that strengthen our faith in God.

God never promised that life would be easy, but He did promise to walk the road with us, if we choose. I do not want to end up on a dead-end road, I want to be on the road where God can be found, how about you?

BLESSINGS. Laurie
