A fish lesson

When a storm sweeps across the ocean surface, the fish below know exactly where the water is still — deep down under. While up on the surface, the winds and the waves are raging, but below lies water completely at peace. Perhaps we could learn a lesson from fish!

Consider this. In a shallow relationship with God we  find ourselves being tossed to and fro by stormy waves of circumstance. In the Bible, James describes such a person as “double-minded” and unstable. In trials, a double minded person cannot exercise faith because he has not gone deep with the Lord.

It isn’t until we go deep in our relationship with Him that we can have a clearer understanding of what is happening at the surface. Seeking the Prince of Peace will bring a peace that passes all understanding, even in the midst of great storms.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Are you distressed or worried about something? It’s time to press in… go deeper in your relationship with Him.  He doesn’t want you to remain in the raging storm – He will lead you to the still water. Remember, the treasure is always found at the bottom of the ocean not the top … so dive in deep to unbury the treasure of God!

Philippians is my favorite book of the New Testament. I think we can learn much from Paul’s writings of encouragement. Like you said, the surface is sometimes choppy and rough, but in the deep we find peace.

Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us.

What a wonderful visual analogy and a great reminder to go deep with the Lord! Thanks for the encouragement!

I’m going deeper that is for sure. There’s nothing like change and uncertainty to cause me to run to the Lord. He is my rock in times of trouble.

    Great reminder.
