Fragile

My husband’s recent fall in the yard has brought home to us how easy it is for life to change in a moment. What seemed like a simple stumble has resulted in a broken neck vertebra that could have paralyzed him. He’s not paralyzed, but we understand the prognosis is tricky. God had his life in hand at that moment and continues to help us. This whole situation reminds us how fragile our lives are, how temporary.
The hymnist Edward Mote wrote,
“My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus’ name
On Christ the Solid Rock I stand,
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.”
I don’t want to put my faith in anything other than Jesus. Doctors are great and praying intercessors are wonderful, but ultimately, we must trust Jesus with everything. The enemy will try to speak despair into our hearts over uncertainties. We can’t listen. Christ is our reliable help in time of need.
First Corinthians 3:11 says,” For no one can lay a foundation other than which is laid, which is Jesus Christ “(ESV). I’m so glad my husband and I laid a home foundation on Jesus so many years ago, and now when troubles come, He’s with us. He’s our friend. David said, “The righteous shall be glad in Jehovah, and shall take refuge in him.” “My mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips; when I remember thee upon my bed,and meditate on thee in the night-watches. For thou hast been my help, and in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice” (Psalm 64:10; Psalm 63: 5-7 ASV).
I have been too stressed when I try to sleep to verbalize much more than “Jesus. Jesus.” That is enough. That is everything.

    Oh dear Luwana, I am so sorry to read that your husband got hurt. I hope he will be healing soon.
    Yes, you are right, we are fragile, and putting our trust in Jesus is the best way we can handle hurt.

    Luwana, I empathize with you – my husband just had extensive back surgery. As I pray for him in the middle of the night when he’s in pain, I’ll also remember your husband in prayer.
