Give me Faith

“When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”” ~ Matthew 21:20-22 (ESV – emphasis mine)

Doubt means “to be uncertain about something; be undecided in opinion or belief.”

Last week I shared that I am in the process of restarting my business. Many may think that I am way too old to still have this notion (including myself). However I cannot silence the passion I have in my heart. Currently I am enrolled in a business start-up class which is geared toward photography business. Most of the women in the class are in their thirties, which makes it even harder to keep going. I will be 59 next week, so yes, doubt creeps in every time I sign on to work through the material.

I am wondering if I don’t have enough faith to step out of my comfort zone, following my dream and passion. In my cube, I pinned a devotion written by Rick Warren. It is an older devotion, but I need to read it almost daily. It is talking about doubt and letting go of it. Rick Warren writes:

“Doubt is the single greatest enemy of confidence. It limits your potential. It causes procrastination. It will cause you to miss God’s best.”

After Jesus cleansed the temple of the money-changers, He was angry enough to let a fig tree wither on His way back to the city. But what He says next, struck a chord with me. “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt…And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith”.

Yes, I procrastinate, I doubt, I have no confidence. Where do I need to turn to get more confidence, to no longer doubt? Lifting my eyes toward heaven and asking God to give me the confidence to step out of my comfort zone.

“Lord of Mercy and Grace. This morning I ask that You give me the confidence I need to step out of my comfort zone. Help me to overcome my unbelief and give me faith to trust You wherever You lead me. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.”

We are never too old to learn or too old to pursue our dreams! I’m 55 years old and going to college to finish a degree I started over 30 years ago. I’m double the age of most of my fellow classmates but that doesn’t matter. God gives us the desires of our heart and I believe that is happening for you Iris!

Go for it, Iris! God has given you the gift ( I love your pictures) and the will, so keep moving forward, trusting Him along the way.
