Never too old to be used by God

They will still bear fruit in old age,

they will stay fresh and green,

Psalm 92:14

When I was an unruly pre-teen, a senior lady taught my Sunday school class at church every Sunday. I was ornery and pretended I wasn’t listening to the lessons, but somewhere down inside I heard almost every word she said. More important to me than her words, were her actions and the way she looked at me with her eyes…eyes that really saw, and eyes that really cared. I and the other girls in my class were enough trouble to scare the bravest teacher away, but not her. She planted herself there firmly and didn’t budge. Patiently she met with us every week, always with a smile on her face that revealed the love for us she held in her heart.

She was wise and kind, and that’s how God used her in the lives of at least one of those ornery girls – me. It’s because of that silver haired lady that I learned to memorize my first Bible scripture, a verse I kept in my heart to this day. It was a verse that helped me through some rough times growing up.

I believe this woman was strategically placed in my life by God, and because of her faithfulness, I came to know Jesus as my savior. Because she faithfully planted His seeds of love every Sunday, lives were changed. I was changed from the inside out as the seeds planted within my heart sprouted and grew.

You are never too old or too young to say yes to God. You may be just the right person to tell someone the things God wants them to hear – even if that someone’s ears seem closed. He has the ability to bypass the ears and go straight to the heart. You don’t need anything fancy to be used by Him; He will fill any open hand with His seeds. His only requirement is that they are willing. His love will do the rest.

Let’s stay fresh and green, and keep bearing fruit…even into old age,

Charlotte

It is so true that we are never too old (or young) to be used by God. Like you said “we need to be willing”.
