God Paints the Sky

I’m a sky lover.

How ‘bout you?

I still remember the night I saw this sunset. I was on vacation in Florida sitting outside poolside with my family. I couldn’t believe the orange that took over the blue sky. It’s like God lit a holy fire. I wanted to shout out to everyone around me.

“Stop!”
“Check out the sky!”
“Can you believe those colors?”
“Isn’t God amazing?”

I looked around and everyone kept doing what they were doing. Playing volleyball in the pool. Swimming. Relaxing. Eating dinner at the poolside cafe. Talking. No one stopped. Was this normal? Or was I seeing things?

All I knew was I was overwhelmed by beauty. God was painting the sky. I had to breathe in the moment.

So why does God give us the beauty of the changing skies? I know of at least two reasons.

* To show us His creative Hand at work.

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1(NIV).

* To remind us of His love and faithfulness.

For great is your love, higher than the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Psalm 108:3-4(NIV).

I love that God paints an ever-changing portrait, day and night, for all to see. A sweet visual reminder of who He is.

God with us. Emmanuel.

Do you need a reminder today?

If so, I dare you to look up.

(Take this from someone who spent too many days and nights looking down, it’ll change your perspective.)

Thankful for the orange sky,

Amen to that, Tiffany. We too often rush through life and forget to enjoy the beauty around us. By the way – I love watching the sky – especially at sun-set time 🙂
Thank you for the reminder to not always look down, but also to look up.

As I get older I find myself looking upward a whole lot more…Just waiting to see my Lord’s return!

I too love sunrises and sunsets… We saw many beautiful sunsets in Arizona. The other morning as I looked out my window I watched a beautiful sunrise where I live in Pennsylvania. I was a little down that morning until I saw the sunrise… Made me think… When I keep my eyes fixed on the “Son” every day is a beautiful “Sonrise”.

    Bless you dear,

I also love the changing sky. I take pix of the sky too. I sometimes see something so beautiful that I want to capture it to find out I don’t have a camera. Then I’m reminded that it’s something that God wants to only share between He and I… Love of my Soul. Praise GOD! AMEN.

How beautiful, I’m sure the photo doesn’t even compare to seeing it in real life! We have some beautiful sunsets here in Texas. Some nights I’ll notice a particularly gorgeous one and I’ll say look at the sky to my boys and we’ll thank God for it.

    Have a great week!

I love it too! Sunrises, sunsets, I’m there =)

That’s the only crummy thing about living in the city…the beautiful view too often gets obscured. I especially miss all the stars at night! (Darn light pollution!)

Hi there my friend, What a beautiful photo-so glorious.
I’m heading home today and looking forward to our beautiful sunsets-maybe not as brillant but beautiful all the same. Hope all is well with you. I had a problem with my back on the flight over so praying I can fly with no problem-want to be set for Oct.
    Hugs to you today.

The picture of the sky is amazing! God does such a great job of painting the sunrise and sunset.
I too am one that loves to look up at the sky. They have such meaning to me personally. Sometimes, I think others are too busy to just pause for a moment and thank God for His handiwork.

Time and time again, I have been blown away by the exquisite beauty that God paints in the sky. Through all of the seasons, the sunsets, the cloud formations, the sunrises…are beyond discription. I appreciated this devotional today, as I appreciate every visit I make to your blog. I don’t always comment, but I always appreciate the things you share. Thank you!

I love to look at the sky too! I especially love a blue sky filled with clouds that change shape and become all sorts of interesting characters.
I was admiring all of the wild flowers growing along our roadsides the other day and thinking how thankful I am that our God is so creative. He fills our world with such beauty.

    Tiffany,
I LOVED this..I am such a sky watcher and am mesmerized by the clouds! Yes, that’s why I sometimes swerve while driving. 🙂 (kidding)

I’m with you girl…watching the skies…for you know…He’s coming in the clouds!

I’m a sky-lover too, Tiffany 🙂 Something happens to me when I lift my eyes…spirit soars! I don’t think that’s an accident, do you?

    Thankful for your words.

I too love sunrise and sunsets. It is amazing how God paints the sky a different way each day. Each day is different. I also find people do not get excited but if they would only look up they would see the greatest artist of all time, God. Only God can paint the skies the beautiful colors they are.

I was looking for the Bible reference concerning God painting the sky & your site popped up. I really enjoyed what you shared. I am a songwriter & years ago I hear a message on God painting the sky. Well the juices started flowing & a song came out of it. Thought I’d share the words with you.

    He Paints the Sky

Father & mother stare into space..longing to see their sweet baby face
The pain in their heart no one should know
Will the ache in their chest ever let go

But He paints the sky…He paints the sky

Mark Gotta job that’s stealing his his soul he’s 41 but he looks 60 years years old
The money is great, but his life is not It’s a terrible price paying for that top

But He paints the sky so we can know..that His everlasting love will never let go
He paints the sky so we can see..in His arms no better place to be

Sarah is a young girl who can feel out of place
cause the blood in her veins is not of one race
Seems not to matter she’s a child of the King
When she walks by her ears they ring

But He paints the sky…He paints the sky

Ryan is young man he moves kinda slow
never in the fast lane but there are things that he knows
People can treat him like a contagious disease
Do they know some nights he can cry to his knees

But He paints the sky so we can know.. that His everlasting love will never let go
He paints the sky so we can see in His arms no better place to be

His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me

Little country church in a southern state burned to the ground a terrible mistake now they meet in a borrowed tent for this crime of heat will anyone repent

But He paints the sky so we can know that His everlasting love will never let go
He paints the sky so we can see in His arms no better place to be

He paints the sky…He paints the sky…my Father paints the sky
