He Knows Your Heart

I started to explain something to her, my cousin whom I also called friend. I hadn’t said more than two or three words before she stopped me with a few simple words. “That’s okay. You don’t have to explain, I know your heart!” She reminded me that she knew me from the countless hours we’d spent together as children and young adults sharing our hopes and dreams and planning our future. She remembered our transparency with each other and she could confidently say, “I know your heart.”

I thought about my cousin’s words today as I read my Bible. Her heartfelt words made me feel free to express myself to her because I believed she wouldn’t be quick to misjudge or misunderstand me. However, as well as we knew each other there were at times misunderstandings, because the reality is, only Jesus truly knows someone’s heart.

Jesus will never misunderstand you or misjudge you. He will never take your words to mean something other than what you intended. He will never read something negative into your innocent actions or reactions. He truly knows your heart and no one can change His thoughts about you.

People you trust may sometimes overlook you, misunderstand you or reject you for many reasons. Rest assured though, Jesus never will.

The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”1 Samuel 16:7(NLT)

That is so true. How wonderful to have your cousin to confide in, but even better to have the Lord.

God knows our heart. It’s a scary but yet a comforting realization. Good Word Bernadine!
