His Stars

Then you will shine like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. Philippians 2:15-16

Tonight I took a walk outside and looked up at the black sky freckled with stars. The Big Dipper looked so close I wanted to reach up and grab hold of its handle. It is the seven brightest stars in the constellation Ursa Major, the few that can be seen with human eyes. I tried to imagine looking beyond them, and past the moon, past the solar system, past the Milky Way; to imagine the bigness of God. As I imagined the magnitude of the One who created the stars, I began to feel very small. The more I thought about Him, the smaller I felt.

I remembered what Jesus said about us –

“You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:14

It amazes me that in our smallness He has given us such a big part in His plans. He has entrusted us with His word; to proclaim it to a dark world, to share the gospel and be His witnesses. This grand God who delights in hanging stars in the sky said that we are the light of the world. Not the sun or the moon and stars, but us – His children. We shine like stars as we hold firmly to the word of life.

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:4

His word is light and life to those living in a dark world. Are you sharing it? Are you shining?

Powerful message, Charlotte. It is true, God is grand and He chooses us to be a light in the world. May we ready to share His greatness at all times.

It is has always been a wonder to me that our God has condescended to shine through us, even though at times we can be very “dull”. It is such a privilege, responsibility and a great blessing to shine for Him in this dark world. Thank you for this beautiful post!
