Hold Fast
“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23 NKJV
The Merriam Webster Dictionary defines the following words:
- Hold-fast: something to which something else may be firmly secured
- Abide: to remain stable or fixed in a state; to continue in a place; to conform to
- Enable: to provide with the means or opportunity; to cause to operate
- Enabler: one that enables another to achieve an end
This week while I was “crafting” the Lord reminded me that I need to hold-fast to Him no matter what life throws at me. I began to think about the definition of: hold-fast.
I thought about the Holy Spirit being an invisible power/helper in my life. I thought of the Holy Spirit being like the invisible glue I was using while crafting. When you bind two pieces of broken pottery with invisible glue, they hold fast and become strong and one cannot see the adhesive but a beautiful piece of pottery instead. What a wonderful picture of the power of the Holy Spirit in our own life. The Holy Spirit takes a sinful, scorned, broken life and turns it into a vessel worthy of God’s use.
The Holy Spirit is what enables us to become firmly secured to Christ.
John 14:16, 26 NKJV “And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
Later as I sat in front of my computer, I started to ponder how the Holy Spirit is our Enabler – Helper.
On our computers we can go into our “settings” and choose to either enable or disable a tool or program that is already on our computer. The programs or tools are already there for our use but we have the say in whether or not we will enable the program to work on our computer.
The same is said in regards to the Holy Spirit. When we become a Christian, the Holy Spirit enters our lives to dwell in us forever. The Holy Spirit is given to us by the Father to teach and guide us in how to live/abide in Christ. But we have to be willing recipients to allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. In other words, we either enable or disable (not heeding to the Spirit’s guidance and teaching) the Holy Spirit that the Lord has given to enable us to hold-fast and abide in Christ.
Like the computer, the tools and programs are there but are only useful if we enable them to work. The Holy Spirit is always there – forever, but are we enabling and heeding to what the Spirit teaches us?
We have a choice each day – Do we wake up each morning and pray to enable the Holy Spirit to guide and teach us so we can hold-fast and abide in Christ or do we go about our daily lives without praying and reading God’s Word and asking the Holy Spirit to guide and lead us?
Have you enabled or disabled the leading of the Holy Spirit in your life this week?
Joshua 22:5 NKJV “But take careful heed to do the commandment and the law which Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commandments, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul.”

Enjoyed this.
May I enable to hold Spirit to work in and through me. May I be a vessel used by God every single day.
Amen Iris.
