If Jesus can Forgive, So Can You

As we near Easter Weekend at the end of this week, I want to encourage everyone to remember exactly what Jesus said right before His life here on earth came to an end. His last words, after being scourged and hung on a cross to die, were words of forgiveness.

Think about this. While people mocked Him, spit upon Him, beat Him, even denied Him – Jesus prayed a prayer of forgiveness over all of those who came against Him. While He did that in His death, why is it that we have a hard time mustering up any kind of prayer of forgiveness over those who mistreat us in our life?

Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34)

We all have people in our life that hurt us, whether it is intentional or not, they cause us pain and heartache. They don’t know what they do. Some people take responsibility for the pain they inflict and actually say they are sorry and ask for forgiveness. But, there are a host of people who will never apologize or feel bad for what they have done or said. The powerful lesson that we learn from the Cross is that forgiveness isn’t for the one who deserves it. No-oneĀ  deserves it, but because of Gods Grace, forgiveness is lovingly extended.

This week, as you think about Easter and all that it represents, I pray that you will take a moment to forget about chocolate bunny rabbits and coloring eggs and think on what the cross means to you. If Jesus can forgive, I’m pretty sure you can too.

Pick up your cross and choose to forgive others.

HAVE A BLESSED RESURRECTION WEEK!
