Do you joyfully journey?
We recently sang the hymn “Nailed to the Cross” one Sunday morning. The third verse really stood out to me.
I will cling to my Savior and never depart,
I will joyfully journey each day,
With a song on my lips and a song in my heart,
That my sins have been taken away.
Are you joyful on your journey through life? The world we live in is a dark, ugly place with bad news surrounding us constantly. You hear more reports of more bad each day; it seems to be getting worse every week. Do you let all that bad news weigh you down? You cannot escape the bad while living in this world, but that does not mean that you should not have joy in your heart.
In reality none of the bad stuff matters in view of eternity. When we remember the hope we have in Heaven because of Christ’s sacrifice for our sins, we should rejoice!
“When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2:13, 14
We need to remember daily that we have reason to “joyfully journey.” We shouldn’t be downcast and weighed down by the worries of this life. We have hope because our sins are nailed to the cross! As Christians we need to be joyful people because of our hope. If you are joyful in your journey, others will notice. Joy isn’t something the world has so they will notice your joy.
This song reminded me that no matter what is happening around me, I still have joy in my heart and a song on my lips because of what my Savior did for me. Remembering the price He paid for me makes me rejoice and forget about the bad news around me!
Thank you Lord for the beautiful sacrifice made for us through Jesus’ death on the cross. Thank you that we can have joy in our hearts because we know our sins are nailed to the cross. Help us remember that today and share your truth with others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
- Cleanse Me, O God!
- Peace IS Still
Amen, Amen, Amen! So true Bethany. God gave us joy and we should celebrate that He loves us, no matter if others do.
