Just Get Started
Have you ever had an idea you were excited about? Maybe it popped into your head and you started jotting down copious notes in a penmanship legible only to you. You jot down everything you could think about without stopping for a minute to try and figure out how you were going to get it done.
When you were finished writing you felt free, lighter somehow and for a moment, excited. You knew you had a great idea and you could almost visualize the finished product. Then you started rereading your notes… As you reread you begin to feel a sense of trepidation. Then, next to those heart driven notes you wrote in huge capital letters, HOW???
The little idea, in your handwriting now seem to be steadily blinking the word, impossible. There are too many variables, you don’t have the strength, the knowledge, the finances to get it done. Surely it wasn’t a God idea, it was just the imagining of your fanciful, big dreaming mind. Maybe you should just tear those pages out of your notebook and forget about it before you make a fool of yourself.
3 Whenever I am afraid,
I will trust in You. Psalm 56:3 (NKJV)
If this resembles you even just a little, I’d like to encourage you to hold on to your notebook. Take a deep breath and give your fears to God. He is the dream giver and the idea generator. He’s the answer to your, “how?”. Tell Him that you feel overwhelmed and unqualified. Ask Him for wisdom in planning your next move.
As you release your fears to God I’d like you to do something even as I commit to doing the same. Write down three things that you need to do to see this idea through. Then commit to starting and completing just one of those things.
Just one thing…
Just get started. That’s all I ask. Many times we give into fear and give up before we even start. Let’s stop the trend together. Let’s stop fearing the agony of defeat so much that we sacrifice ever feeling the thrill of victory.
I’ll end with one of my favorite bible verses.
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct[a] your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV)
Dear God, I pray for all who are reading this devotion today. The dreamers like me whom you have given ideas and dreams that we feel totally unqualified to carry out. I pray that you will give us clarity and strength. Help us to recognize that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. May we all find the courage to step out in faith, knowing that you are there to guide and direct us on our journey. Amen

Bernadine, I think you were writing to me this morning. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I have so many ideas swirling in my head and copious notes. But then fear and doubt creep in and …nothing gets done. Just get started will stay in my head today. Thank you.
I’m so glad this encouraged you, Debbie. I’ll be praying that those ideas you have become reality.
What an encouraging word! It helps to know that you are not alone in the struggle to figure out the next step. May God bless you as you are a blessing to others.
Thank you for stopping by, Lynnette and for your sweet comment. God bless you.
Very encouraging, Bernadine! God’s light sparkles brightest when we face the impossible with little on our part and everything on His part. He loves this kind of courage and faith, I think. Great advice to talk to him and admit we are little but He is big!!!

I love this, Mary! I think I’m going to write this on a sticky and put it on my mirror for daily viewing. Thanks for stopping by.

Thank you the encouragement, Bernadine. I have a notebook full of dreams and ideas. You are right; trust God to see us through these dreams.
You’re welcome, my friend. I’m praying that with God’s help your notebook of dreams will become reality.
