Kindness ~ An Expression of Love

Not long ago my friend, Cathy, blessed me by helping with a big project at our ministry house.  She worked long, hard hours.  She never complained, always smiled, and worked circles around me! Her kindness overwhelmed me. She said she was going to stick with me until the task was complete, and she did.  She’s definitely a very special person!

Her acts of kindness towards me and our ministry have caused me to ponder kindness. How often is kindness thought of merely as good breeding or an act of good manners? “How kind of you to help me,” I told Cathy and others when they show kindness to me.

Kindness is an expression of love. Kindness originates in the heart of heaven, deep in the mind of God. It is His kindness that leads to repentance. It is His kindness that keeps me securely by His side, never to be cast away from Him; not even if the mountains were to tremble, shake and disintegrate to the ground in a pile of rubble. His kindness keeps me even when the foul breath of my sin fills the air. His kindness sent a Savior to forgive me of every unrighteous deed, every calamity I bring upon myself and the lives of others.

Cathy wasn’t being kind to me because she’s inerrantly good, but rather, because she ponders upon her salvation and takes it seriously. Because kindness has been extended to her, she in turn extends kindness.

If we each were to consider our salvation seriously, we would leap across the moments of our life with abounding gratitude and joy. We would wear the garment of kindness with gladness.

The Lord is kind to me because He loves me.  He forgives me because He loves me.   He is tenderhearted and full of mercy.  He is kind.

But when the kindness of our Savior and His love for mankind appeared, He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy…”

Titus 2:4,5

And now He wants me to be kind. He wants each of us to be kind to those we come in contact with.

Father,  We thank You for be a God of love.  Thank You that your very nature is to love us and to show kindness to us even when we are unlovable.   You are good, and everything about you is good.

Isn’t it beautiful to have someone help us when we need to complete a task that is more than we can handle on our own?

Thank you for the reminder to reflect upon our salvation and to show our faith in deeds.
