Learning to Trust

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs. 3:5-6 NKJV

I’m learning to trust God. I have found this to be a lifelong pursuit. Trusting God is sometimes easy, but often very difficult. I have also discovered that when we remember how God has worked in the past, what He has done for us in the past, how He has brought us through, it becomes much easier to trust Him in the future.

Children can be a source of worry. Can I get an “amen”?! We have three sons and all of them have been a source of worry and concern at one point or another. Whether it was an asthma attack, or a poor grade in school, or social anxiety, or hanging out with the wrong kids—we have had to trust our sons to God over and over again. Learning to entrust my sons to God is one of the lessons I’m still learning. I will pray for my son, tell God “I give ____ to You Lord. Work in his life. Draw him to Yourself.” But then the temptation comes to worry. Worry and trust cannot co-exist. When we worry we are not trusting God.

There are some areas of our lives where we find it easier to trust God. Maybe we trust God with our finances, but not our families. Maybe we trust God with our marriage, but not our children. But there is no area of our lives God cannot work in, heal, bring health and peace. No area! We can trust God with every question, every pain, every concern, every worry. He already knows and He is just waiting for us to come to Him and trust Him. When we do trust Him, that “peace that passes understanding” fills our soul and we wonder why we didn’t trust Him sooner.

You are right, Katie. Some days are easy than others. But looking at the history of God, we know with our head that we can trust Him.
