Living Water
“…but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst. But the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” John 4:14 (NKJV)
While it was still cool this morning, I went outside to do my Bible study and noticed I had forgotten to water the plants on the deck yesterday. The dirt in the pots looked like it hadn’t been watered in weeks and the poor plants were drooped over the sides, withered and looking almost dead. After missing only one day of watering, this was the results caused by the hot dry wind blowing across the sun parched deck.
Since my Bible was in hand, I got to thinking about how the plants were a reminder of what happens to us when we neglect to open God’s word and drink in the refreshing truth found there. When we forget or get too busy to spend time with Him, our hearts can become dry and withered like those plants. Before long, the everyday trials and temptations blown across our way leave us parched and thirsty. We need to take the time to stop and dip our cup in the well of living water that Jesus offers us. It’s as easy as walking over and turning on the hose. The water is available; all we need to do is go to the source.
Are you thirsty today? Come to Jesus. He is waiting with living water, and He gives it freely.
“…I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. I will give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts.” Revelation 21:6 (NKJV)
Let’s get wet!

Awesome post.
Well said and so true! It doesn’t take long at all to become dry and wilted when we don’t partake of Jesus’ life-giving water.
Great devo Charlotte. It doesnt take long to become dry without a daily watering of His spirit and Word. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
So true, Charlotte; we need to stay ‘wet’ in order to make it through each challenging day. I know that if I don’t keep in the Word, I get discouraged really quick.
