Living With Peace

Lately, I have been surrounded with such peace. Now, that is not to say that everything in my life is going how I like or how I planned, but yet, I’m okay with it, I am at peace.

I have spent too many days in this life feeling let down, torn down and like I’m going down. There is no peace in those kind of feelings. I have been trying to focus on the positive in my life and even though not everything (or everyone) may seem positive, I can still have peace.

I was reminded this week as I was reading in the Book of Romans that God wants me to be a different kind of person. He wants me to not only have peace but live in peace with others.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be conceited.” (Romans 12:14-16)

Learning to bless our enemies will actually allow a calming peace to sweep over us. Sometimes, I think the reason it is hard to rejoice with those who rejoice or weep with those who weep is because of our own attitude. Instead of rejoicing with others, we get mad or jealous that they are rejoicing instead of us. Likewise, it is difficult to weep with those weeping because we are glad that they have troubles and sorrows.

The latter part of the scripture that I shared in Romans suggests that we are not to be haughty but associate with the lowly. This might mean we may be required to go places we would rather not go or surrender things we would rather not surrender. May the Lord help us, but this may even mean that we may need to rejoice and be glad for our enemies.

This kind of rejoicing (and weeping) will require a change in our attitude and most certainly, a change in our heart. When this kind of change takes place, it doesn’t matter what negativity comes our way, we can still have peace and live at peace.

It is my prayer today that you will not only seek peace with your enemies but that you will find peace with God.

BLESSINGS. Laurie

Powerful message, Laurie. You are right; sometimes we can all wrapped up in our own head. We know what we always can find peace with and in God, no matter the circumstances.
