Love Crucified Arose
Yes, that’s the title of an Easter song, but I cannot go through this season (which I love) without also thinking about the “reason for the season”.
Is the reason for the season all about putting the baby in the manger ahead of Santa? To me, it’s about the Triune God stepping out of His heaven in order to be put on a cross because of my sin.
I remember years ago I was sitting in a balcony of a church with a stained glass cross in the front. For the Christmas season a huge wreath had been hung, wide enough to cross the entire stage. From my viewpoint that Christmas wreath was wrapped around the cross – without the need for that cross, there was no need for Christmas.
What a blessing it is to have a Savior – Immanuel, God With Us, who came down to us in order to bring us up to Him.
Long ago He blessed the earth
Born older than the years
And in the stall a cross He saw
Through the first of many tears
A life of homeless wandering
Cast out in sorrow’s way
The Shepherd seeking for the lost
His life, the price He paid
- On being fair
- Hark! the Herald Angels Sing!
Thank you for sharing this, so lovely.
I really like your word picture of the cross with the Christmas wreath. Exactly!
Lovely post, thanks for sharing.
Loved this! Thanks! Merry Christmas, too.
His life, the price He paid…. It just humbles me over and again. Neat!
