MARY KNEW

“And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazereth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the LORD is with thee: blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said unto her, Fear not Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.”

Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.”

“And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the LORD; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her”. Luke 26-31, Luke 34,35 KJV

This is such a picture of a young maid’s blind faith in God. She knew she had never been with a man, so there was no way she could bear a child. The Holy Spirit answered her by saying “The Holy Ghost would over shadow her and she would carry in her womb the VERY SON OF GOD, THE LONG AWAITED MESSIAH!!

Mary at once knew what this would mean to her family and especially to her espoused husband to be, Joseph. How would she explain what the Holy Spirit has said to her? There was not a witness present to verify her story.

But Mary as young as she was at the time fully believed in the words of the angel Gabriel. She took his words at face value that this was from God. Her answer was “be it unto me according to thy word”. She believed fully in her heart that this was from God and He would make all the days ahead fit into HIS PLAN for her life.

She knew that Joseph would find it hard to believe, and he did; until God gave him a dream and explained to him that this was from the Holy Ghost, to make haste to take Mary as his wife. The Bible does not tell us of her parents reaction, but I feel that knowing their daughter Mary as they had for her whole life, that she was telling the truth.

All of Jesus’ life when whispers were said about his untimely birth, MARY ALWAYS KNEW THAT JESUS WAS BORN OF A VIRGIN. Joseph is to be commended also because he was with Mary during her pregnancy, and when Jesus was born in the stable at the inn, I believe he helped bring Jesus into this world, HE ALWAYS KNEW THAT THIS BABE WAS BORN OF A VIRGIN. (The Bible tells us that Joseph knew Mary not until her days of purification were over after the birth of Jesus).

In this time of Christmas season, let us remember that JESUS TRULY IS THE REASON FOR THIS SEASON.

Dear readers let us live every day for him, who knows what the Holy Spirit will ask us to do for the Kingdom of God?
