My First Love

“I love you so much!  You mean the world to me.” I whispered softly, tears streaming down my face.  There were others present, standing close by but it seemed as if we were alone.  Everyone else faded in the background they too were in their own private world. Even though He had asked before, I knew that this was the right time.  I might not have another chance so at that moment I gave Him, Jesus Christ, my heart.

Sappy though it sounds before I ever fell in love with a guy, as a teenager I fell in love with Jesus Christ.  Maybe that’s why I fell so hard because along with being my Savior He truly is, my first love.

13 When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” 14 “Well,” they replied, “some say John the Baptist, some say Elijah, and others say Jeremiah or one of the other prophets.”  15 Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?”  16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Matthew 16:13-16 (NLT) (emphasis mine)

In Matthew 16:13-16 Jesus asked his disciples, who do people say that I am? They were able to quickly tell him who people said that he was.  However when he asked them, “Who do you say that I am,” it got a little harder.

Why I accepted Jesus he didn’t ask of me who do people say that I am?  He wanted to know, “Who am I to you?”   At that moment I simply knew Him as Savior.  However, over the years I have proven him to be so much more.  He is my best friend, my healer, my comforter, my provider, my confidant, my ray of hope during the bleakest of days… He is so many things to me I can’t express them all.  I’ve come to realize that when people, circumstances, life in general disappoint me He is there for me.  I’ve also come to realize that when I disappoint Him he is faithful to forgive me and let me know that I am precious to him and His love for me is forever.

You are the Love of my life

You are the Hope that I cling to

You mean more than this World to me

I wouldn’t trade You for silver or gold

I wouldn’t trade You for riches untold

You are, You are my EVERYTHING

To someone reading this, He may have been your every thing for a long time and something happened that shook your faith, I’ve been there.  However, instead of turning away from God turn to Him. He loves you.  He cares for you and he is able to take you through whatever you are going through.

God bless,

Bernadine

Since this is the “love month” I thought I’d share about my first love.

Oh Bernadine! This is not only beautifully written (love the first paragraph especillay), but beautifully illustrates the real challenge of people who have lost their passion, lost their first love. Not being able to answer the question “Who do you say I Am?’ because of having their faith shook to the core and loosing hope. Not going deeper with Him and forgetting that first love.

Thank you for this post and excellent challenge.

I love this devotion! Falling head over heals in love with Jesus – that’s the best ever! I pray that the Lord would help me to have that same passion I did when I first fell in love with Him.

Thank you so much for sharing!
