Peace IS Still

Recently, while working on the church “40 Day Journey with Jesus” devotional books, I had copy-pasted the devotion sent in by our pastor’s wife, Pam Pettis (several staff shared devotions for the book).

Pam’s devotion was about “peace”.  Using Jesus’ words, “Peace be still”, her devotion was powerful and moving.

When the “spell-check” did it’s thing–it told me that the correct way to say “peace be still” was actually, Peace IS still. I changed it back to her original wording–but the Lord prompted my heart.

Peace–really IS still.

Peace is not squirming.   Peace is not tumultuous.  Peace is not gasping or grasping.   Peace IS still.

Today, as I mentally go back over the last several days, weeks and even months that some of my friends and loved ones have gone through–I have a strong sense that the enemy is fighting them tooth and toe-nail for their God given “peace”.

“Be still.” Isn’t that what a mother tells a fidgety child?

Be still.   Breath deep.   His air.   Given to YOU and I today.

Pause. Wait before the LORD. Turn off the phone.   Trade the fidgets for His peace.   Spoken from HIS lips to calm your storm.

I write this as much for myself as for you.   Peace is something that seems fleeting at times lately.   But still I stand.  Still.

Waiting before Him. His eyes cast in my direction. Your direction.

You are not alone.   He’s there little mother.
He’s there, dad–even though you don’t feel Him.
Brother and Sister–He’s got a finger poised in the air to rescue your aching heart.   Lean back.   Rest in Him.
Peace IS still.

There are things we need to do in order to expedite “peace” sometimes. Decisions must be made. I made one a few weeks ago.

I took “Facebook” off my phone. Since we don’t have consistent internet at home, I never check Facebook on the weekends anymore. Only during the week–on breaks at work. It’s not as important to keep up with what’s going on–but MORE important to keep the lines of communication with the Father OPEN and clear—so that PEACE can rule.

The demands of life can be, and most of the time “are” great.  “Busy” seems a word I use much too often–but there is no other way to describe the “busy” filled days.  I have made some “internal” decisions though–and I believe the results will be more “peace-filled” days.

I challenge you to do the same.  Life is too short to live a life of chaotic noise…Listen for His voice.  Filled with peace.

Today, may you be filled to over flowing with HIS peace. It “is” still.
