Prayer Still Works

Prayer still works! I heard these words in my mind recently when I was putting away my groceries. It resonated almost as if someone had said it out loud. However, since I was alone in the kitchen I knew that wasn’t the case. It was the Holy Spirit speaking directly to my heart.

I’ve been through a period of little prayer recently. During that time I’ve had a running commentary with God going in my mind. However, I couldn’t find much to say out loud in my regular prayer time. It’s hard to have faith at times when it seems as if God isn’t answering any of your prayers.

The simple words that I heard while in my kitchen encouraged me to deepen my prayer life again, trust God again. You see, prayer still works was something my mom would say to me anytime I was feeling discouraged. It always encouraged me to continue to seek God even during the times when He was silent almost as if His ears were dead to my prayers.

The reasons why I was having difficulty praying like I should didn’t change instantly. My faith wasn’t suddenly recharged. However, I felt His peace. I knew He heard my  spoken and unspoken prayers and in His time answers would come.

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. 1 John 5:14 NIV

So true Bernadine; sometimes I don’t know what to pray, but I know that God knows my heart and knows my needs. He is faithful. Even if your prayers are not long, kind communicating with God.

Yes! Prayer does work. One reason why we need our brothers and sisters to stand in the gap for us, holding us up in prayer is for those very moments we are unable to pray for ourselves. When the words cannot come, the Holy Spirit Steps in on our behalf. Thank you for the power of prayer! (Hugs)
