Pursuing Peace
There have been those along the way on the journey of my life that have left an impression upon my life like footprints in the sands of time. That is my desire, to gently press upon others and leave an imprint of Godly character.
Peace is one of those qualities I wish to imprint.
What is peace and how do I live out a life of peace so that others would desire it?
There are two kinds of Peace ~ Peace with God and the Peace of God.
Peace with God, as found in Romans 5:1 is that saving promise of deliverance. The peace that sets us at one with Him. We had been broken off from fellowship with Him because of the sinful nature of man. But God desires to be at peace with us, to be set at one again; like setting a broken bone. Peace with God is His saving promise to deliver us from the eternal consequence of sin, the message known as the Gospel of Peace (Ephesians 6:15 and Acts 10:36.)
And then there is the Peace of God. This peace is an act of His grace upon the life of a believer and it directly affects our character. (Philippians 4:7) It is this peace that gives us security and frees us from the distresses and strife’s that are experienced as a result of sin in the world. It’s not living in a lala land with our heads in the sand, ignoring what is going on around us. Rather, it is the ability to be at peace in the midst of a storm because of our relationship with Him.
So how do I live out a life of peace so that others would desire it?
One way would be for me to live my life as a peacemaker; one who seeks to piece back together that which has been broken. Where there is strife, to intentionally set out to mend that which is broken. That can only be done by pointing them to the Great Physician, the mender of all things broken.
Another way is to pray for my children, grandchildren and others I encounter, to be peace loving, to desire peace, to not allow discord and strife to rule their hearts, but rather the Peace of Christ.
I want to pray for others and myself to “pursue the things which make for peace and the building up of one another.” Romans 14:19

Father, May I pursue peace in my life. And let my children make every effort to do what leads to peace. Thank You for being the giver of peace.

I like what you said about ‘living in lala-land’ …we do know what is going on our there, however we do have His peace to react differently 🙂
For instance today I was on a call and my blood started to bubble a little. But instead of reacting to the inaccurate accusations, I started to write on a Scripture passage on the back of my notebook (and wrote “breathe, breathe, breathe deeply” 🙂
I’m thankful for that peace because of my relationship with Him.
You have so many wonderful devotionals, you should put them in a book!
Marsha, I pursue peace by praying and trusting God with my life and prayer requests. In the past, I’ve prayed and find I’ve picked up my burdens again and had no peace. This year I desire to trust and obey. My verses for this year are Philippians 4:6-7 and I want to live them out. It’s the only way to live daily in peace.
