Remember when…
Remember when….
This is a phrase we seem to say regularly at our house. My son enjoys hearing stories about when he was a baby, and I love remembering those moments to share with him. My husband and I like to talk about our early dating days and the beginning of our marriage. Over the past few months we have been remembering quite often. We’ve been doing a lot of waiting to see what would happen with my husband’s job. There were times we couldn’t see how it was all going to work out which made it feel a bit overwhelming.
I remember one particular day I was feeling more overwhelmed than usual by the whole situation. There were so many questions, and we had no clue when we would have any answers. My husband gently reminded me to remember our days when we got married. People would ask us “Where are you going to live?” and “Where will you work?” The simple answer was “We don’t know.” We knew we were getting married June 2 but didn’t know all the details to the important questions people asked. But we trusted God to figure all that out, and He did.
So that day this summer when I was feeling overwhelmed and my husband reminded me of our previous situation, I received such comfort in remembering God’s goodness to us in the past. He provided the answers to the questions in His timing, not ours. I knew that even though I couldn’t see clearly on that particular day it would all work out and some day it would all fit together. He had been faithful in the past and remains faithful today.
God wants us to remember the times when He has blessed us and answered our prayers. We aren’t supposed to just receive the blessing and go along the journey of life and forget it. He wants us to remember. In the Old Testament He wanted the people to remember how He had brought them out of slavery in Egypt.
Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands. Deuteronomy 8:2
He had a reason for them to go through the desert all those years; He had some lessons for them to learn. But after it happened He wanted them to remember Who had helped them so they wouldn’t forget and become proud (Deuteronomy 8:10-15).
We are the same way. Sometimes we need to stop and remember how God has been faithful in the past just so we don’t forget.
What do you do to help you remember what He has done for you? One thing I do is journal. It’s fun to read back through the months and see how things all fit together.
Take some time to remember a time the Lord answered a particular prayer. Remember Who it was that answered your prayer and remember that He is still with you today.

Amen, well said.
Amen to that, Bethany. I do journal my prayers; that way I can go back remembering His faithfulness.
Thank you for sharing from your heart.
Amen Bethany… Amen.. Thank you my friend.
