Remember

One night I felt so sad inside….just one of those sad times and feeling down. It wasn’t any particular thing making me sad, but rather just thinking about all that has happened for our family in the past year and feeling sentimental about it…selling our house, our unexpected multiple moves, buying a new house.

As I was getting ready for bed, I read a Psalm as I’ve been in the habit of doing before I go to sleep. That particular night was a familiar passage–Psalm 42, NCV. As I got to verse 5, I felt that it matched exactly how I felt at that particular time. Why do I feel sad? Why am I upset? That was at the end of the page, and as I turned the page it was beginning verse 6…”I am very sad. So I remember you…”

“So I remember you…” This just blessed me so much. When I was feeling sad, I needed to just stop for a minute and remember Him. I had so much from the past year that I could remember as I thought about time after time where we saw firsthand God’s blessings and faithfulness. I went to sleep feeling peaceful after I paused to remember God.

We all have those times when we feel sad or down. We don’t have to stay there and wallow in our sadness. During these times I’d encourage you to pause and remember. Remember the times you’ve seen God work in the past and have felt His love and presence. Remember the answers to prayers. Remember His hand of guidance for your family. Remember His provision. It is valuable to record your memories and answers to prayer in a journal so that in those sad times you can go back and be cheered by remembering.

As the Psalm goes on to say in verse 11, “I should put my hope in God and keep praising him, my Savior and my God.” Remember today and put your hope in Him.

Amen! I have been in that same place and when I look up, He always bring me back to the times He has restored my soul, renewed my strength and refueled my tank. Sometimes when we cant go forward, we just have to remember what He has brought us from. 🙂

I love this. I keep a journal and read through it when I feel sad. It reminds me of the many blessings and answers to prayer and gives me hope for the future.

I’ve had those sad moments too Bethany. You are so wise to read the Psalms before going to bed. I may begin to do this too. I’m sure I’ll sleep much better with God’s Word planted in my mind.

    blessings and love,
