I Need You to Survive
Recently one of my fingers decided (without my permission) that it needed a vacation. It decided it wasn’t going to bend when I told it to or straighten when I needed it too. Because of this unapproved vacation I dropped a few things, made mistakes when I was typing and was all around inconvenienced because of this one seemingly insignificant finger. Yes, I got everything done eventually but it would have been much easier and quicker if I had the cooperation of that stubborn finger.
This experience reminds me of the body of Christ. His body is made up of a variety of people who play many different roles. On the surface it may seem as if some roles are more important than others. However this is not the case. Each member of the body of Christ fulfills specific roles. While some may seem unnecessary when they withdraw their services their absence is felt. While the job may eventually get done the process is longer. Someone else has to take on the load to compensate for the one who is no longer there.
God wants us to know that there are no members in his body that are more important than others. We all play a significant role. We all need each other to make the journey easier. Because none of us is perfect and strong all of the time there will be times when we don’t carry our weight in the body. For whatever reason we may be unable to do our part. However just as my other fingers had to compensate for the vacationing one we have to do that for each other.
Romans 15:1-2 states,
1-2 Those of us who are strong and able in the faith need to step in and lend a hand to those who falter, and not just do what is most convenient for us. Strength is for service, not status. Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, “How can I help?” The Message
There is really no getting around it, no matter how strong we are, there is going to come a time when we falter, when we need the strength of those around us. It doesn’t mean that we are weak or feeble we simply need each other to survive.
I need you, you need me.
We’re all a part of God’s body.
Stand with me, agree with me.
We’re all a part of God’s body.
It is his will that every need be supplied.
You are important to me, I need you to survive.
You are important to me, I need you to survive.

You are right Bernadine; we do need each other to survive this side of heaven. As you stated we are all equally important in the Kingdom of heaven.
Thank you for the reminder that our service, not matter what, builds the community of believers.
You are so right Bernadine; we need each other to survive. Because no man is an island. God wants us to help each other. And show love for one another.
