Taking a walk

This week, my husband and I are on a vacation. The first one in a couple of years. We all need to take time to rest. Not only do we need refreshing in our bodies, but our spirits as well, in order to be healthy Christians.

So, we decided to go to the best place to rest and become restored…the beach!

We love the beach! One of the things that I have noticed about the beach though is the amount of people who walk the beach.

Day or night, you can find people taking long walks along the seashore. No matter the age, no one person walks the same. Some walk swiftly. Some walk slowly. Some walk only a few steps before stopping.

When my husband and I walk the beach, he always walks a step ahead of me, even though I try to keep up, he usually has to slow down to let me catch up. No matter how many times he does this, it seems his step always gets ahead of me.

When it comes to our walk with God, we do the same thing.

Some of us walk ahead. Some of us lag behind. How much easier would it be if we would just learn to walk in harmony? Not just on the beach, but with our Lord and Savior as well.

To keep in step with God, we must stay close to Him, not just today, but commit each and every day that our steps with Him would be renewed and refreshed.

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” –Galatians 5:25

Keep in step with the Spirit? I can barely keep in step with my husband, how in the world can I keep in step with the Spirit?

To keep in step with the Spirit, we must take time for the things of Him. If you have ever walked the beach with someone, you will notice that the first time may seem awkward, but the second time, your steps become more unified.

I never want my steps to be out of line with my God. Growing in Him will be a walk, but believe me, it will be the best walk of your life!

“He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked.” -1 John 2:6

How about taking a long walk with God? You will surely be refreshed and renewed by slowing down enough to take His hand. And along the way, you may even recognize the stillness of His voice.
