The Faithfulness of Christmas

On this Christmas Eve day, I reflect on my Christmas past and I am overcome with thankfulness that God has always been faithful to me.

While many homes are filled with holiday cheer and roasting chestnuts around their fire tonight, there are also many homes that will be dark, with a chill in the air and no gifts to worry about wrapping.

Growing up as a young girl, my mother was a single parent, raising 3 children on little income. Now that my husband and I have raised a family of our own, I understand the burden and the cost of providing Christmas for little, expectant hearts. Realizing now the sacrifices my mother must have made for us at Christmastime warms my heart as I remember that we always had something to unwrap on Christmas morning. This marks the faithfulness of God.

I can recall other Christmases where God was faithful to me:

There was that Christmas past when I was ten years old, so sick with pneumonia that I was hospitalized. God was faithful and healed my body.

Another Christmas past, while my mother and my stepdad were on vacation to Colorado, my stepdad dropped to the ground with a massive stroke and heart attack. My brother and I left Christmas Day to drive across the states to get to my mother. With banks closed on Christmas, we left with the little cash we had in our pockets. God was faithful and gave us safe travels and allowed us to be with our mother when our stepdad took his last breath.

On yet another Christmas past, God showed Himself faithful when after 40 years of separation, I was able to reconcile with my real dad whom I had never met. What a remarkable Christmas gift!

So many people search for that perfect gift while rushing around and in their hurried state, they can only think of Christmas present and easily forget about their Christmas past. The greatest Christmas past is the first Christmas when Jesus was born a babe and came to give light to a dark world. Ever since that first Christmas, God has been faithful …

”I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember Your wonders of old.” (Psalm 77:11)

May we always remember the faithfulness of Christmas, both present and past.

MERRY CHRISTMAS! Laurie

Yes, there are hearts are broken and cold this Christmas. I am thankful for God’s faithfulness over the years. Although 2019 was not an easy year for us, His faithfulness can be seen throughout the year.

    Merry Christmas, Laurie.
