Is it time yet?

Waiting for something is the hardest thing for me to do.

I guess many of you are like me when it comes to being patient for things to happen. I remember when I was pregnant with all four of my children, in the beginning of my pregnancy, 9 months just seemed like an eternity. But then as time passed, and my womb grew, and the birth came … the previous 9 months just seemed like a blur of time.

Many times when we are anxious about something in our life, time seems to tick on so slowly! We live in a society today that has grown to be impatient with waiting. Look at everything that is at our fingertips…fast food, fast cars, drive thru pharmacies, instant tax rebates. Seems like we have become so use to getting everything we want instantly that we don’t know how to wait for the right time for things to happen.

My favorite story in the Bible demonstrates so perfectly the timing of  God. Joseph remained in prison for 3 long years,  until the right time came for him to be brought to Pharaoh and he was then made second in command in all of Egypt.

The Israelites also had to wait for the right time.

They waited for hundreds of years for the Messiah, and then at the right time, God sent Him to save the entire world.

JOHN 7:1-5 “After this, Jesus stayed in Galilee, going from village to village. He wanted to stay out of Judea where the Jewish leaders were plotting His death. But soon it was time for the Festival of Shelters, and Jesus brothers urged Him to go to Judea for the celebration. ‘Go where Your followers can see Your miracles’ they scoffed. ‘You can’t become a public figure if You hide like this! If you can do such wonderful things, prove it to the world!’ for even His brothers did not believe in Him.”

Even though His brothers mocked and urged Jesus, Jesus had a strong sense of what His mission was. He knew His Father’s timing and He knew that if He went to Jerusalem at that particular time, it would not be in God’s plan. He had to wait for God’s timing, for it would be the right time then.

Timing is everything. Not only was it everything for Jesus but it is also for us today. When God tells us to wait, then we need to wait. When He tells us to go, then we need to get up and go. And in-between the “wait” and the “go”, we must be patient for His timing.

What are you waiting for today?

Be patient and wait for it … His timing is everything!

My favorite verse is “Be still and know that I am God”. It has taught me to wait patiently and not go before God. If we go before Him, we may loose the wonderful gift He has for us! We are to wait for His timing and not ours. Patience is a hard lesson to learn but we are here to do God’s will not ours. I often have to recite verses while I am waiting to remind me who is in charge of my life!
Thank you for sharing this post, it helps me remember that I am not alone in waitng on my Saviour.

Nice post Laurie. Maybe that’s why there is no time in heaven, only the eternal present. God knows how difficult the waiting can be.

Great post 🙂 this reminds me of something I heard one time on KLove….. They were saying waiting for God’s timing is important and used the example of a cake baking in the oven… The cake might look to you likes it’s ready, so you take it out of the oven and come to find out that it is still gooie inside, it wasn’t time to take it out of the oven, see what we didn’t know is that the middle wasn’t done yet, it needed to cook longer. When we get impatient waiting on God’s timing and step outside his will and force things to happen, it will not turn out like it should. Waiting on God’s timing is important!! If you wait you will be glad you did!!! 🙂

    Love you!!
